South Africa intends to impose restrictions on regulated and unregulated gambling markets. The initiator of the implementation of such measures is the country's Minister of Trade and Industry, Rob Davis , who last week presented the corresponding draft law. It should be noted that the development of this document began in 2016.
The passage of the bill will launch reforms that will seriously affect various segments of the industry. In accordance with the new law, a new gambling regulator will be formed to monitor the gambling industry.
The document envisages strengthening of measures of control over the activities of casinos, changes in the number of permits for slot machines and bingo issued by local regulators, regulation of electronic types of bingo. In addition, with the adoption of the new law, the number of gambling establishments will be limited, as well as "hidden" and "separate" entrances to gambling establishments inside the shopping center and other easily accessible places. According to the new rules, the created gambling regulator will have the right to confiscate the illegally obtained income in gambling.
It is worth recalling that in South Africa, as in most countries of the "black" continent, gambling is very popular. The largest group of players are young men. Today, South Africa is banned from playing poker and online casinos, while online betting on sports events is allowed. But the proliferation of the internet and the availability of smartphones are enabling unregulated operators to provide services to South Africans .
